Having a body is complicated because that body most often comes with a mind. And a mind can be trained to do strange tricks, such as hating the body in which it resides. I once heard an 89 year old woman remark that she didn’t want her picture taken because she hated to look at herself. It hadn’t occurred to me before, and so I was shocked because I realized I was on that same path. The path that leads a woman to hate her own body for eight decades. It’s a harrowing thought.
The Trouble With Having A Body is the final piece in my three-part series of library card flag books. The first two in the series are The Take Care Blues and Tooth And Nail.
