This past fall I was lucky enough to make a trip to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, where I viewed the David Bowie Is exhibit. The exhibit featured music, fashion, movies, journals, paintings, and a cocaine spoon; all from Bowie’s personal collection. My favorite part of the exhibit was getting to view some of his props from The Labyrinth, such as Jareth’s riding crop and crystal ball, as well a letter from Jim Henson asking for Bowie to read the first draft of the script.
After the exhibit, I bought a pack of postcards from the gift shop. Typically, I hoard any paper ephemera that comes into my possession, but this time I decided to do something fun with my prize. My best friend, Jaime, loves David Bowie more that just about anything, and so I made her a book from these postcards as a Christmas gift. I didn’t get to see her open the present, but I think she liked it!
