This is the last post of 2014, and it’s a good one! This December I was commissioned by a friend to create my latest book, Haunt.
This was a very special moment for me. I have been commissioned to create works before, but I’ve always been asked to make things that are not in my wheelhouse (landscapes, portraits, scrapbooks, etc.) I’ve always been grateful to sell any work I can. But at the same time, I always felt a little bit bummed about the fact that, while people want my skill, they don’t necessarily want my work.
That’s what makes the sale of this book so special to me. It was the first time someone asked me to make them something that was totally my vision. When I asked my friend what he wanted me to make, he said to make whatever I felt; he didn’t want to give me any suggestions. I definitely consider this a landmark moment in my artistic career and I will never forget it. Thank you, Brian!
