Well, it’s mid-August and I’m almost upon my one year anniversary of creating full time. Next week I will write a post of my thoughts about this special occasion, but for now, I have a new work to share.

This week, I embarked on an important shift in my Holes series. From the beginning of this series I was drawn to a limited color scheme, and I think it served me well for the first cycle of work. However, as time moves on, I’ve begun to miss the variety that color can afford. And so this week’s painting is a tread on new territory. I am pleased at how the colors react to a black background. I wanted to juxtapose the use of translucent and opaque colors, and I rather like the effect.
A portion of my week in the studio has been spent on a larger panel, continuing with my experiments in color. I think this work is gonna be the bee’s knees. Here’s a sneak peak:

Going well, Megan! I really love the colours here – the variety, harmonies and the way the black background supports them. That top piece is really good to look at – to explore all the shapes and colours – lovely! More, please!
