MOTHERS

My week has been busy, and my art has been slow.  So today I will share some in progress photos.  I think it might be interesting to see how the work progresses from beginning to end.  I should be finished with this piece next week.

Also, I promised you photos of my finished memory book, but I must confess I’m a dunce, because I forgot to photograph the work before I gave it away.  Oh well, c’est la vie.  Instead, I’ll show you some pictures of other memory books I’ve created.  The designs are very similar to the latest one I forgot to photograph.

My favorite part of the design is the button binding on the spine.  I think it gives the books a unique touch.  If you’re interested in owning your own one-of-a-kind memory book, just drop me a line and we’ll work it out!

Lastly, I’d like to share with you one of the coolest public sculptures I’ve ever seen.  A couple of weeks ago I took a trip to Chicago and while I was there I spent a day at the Contemporary Museum of Art (I declare this museum as one of my favorite places on earth).  In front of the main entrance to the museum is a work titled, MOTHERS, created by British artist Martin Creed.  The sculpture is over forty feet long and twenty feet high, and it is continually rotating on its base.  This work really blew me away.  Its size, mass, and the fact that it’s kinetic took my breath away.  I was an entire block from the museum when I caught my first glance of the moving sculpture and I gasped.  It’s difficult to put into words, but the work instantly struck me with fear and awe.  My pictures don’t do it justice.

Book looks lovely – very tactile. Good work!

Ha! Yes, fear and awe. I got this feeling like I assume one might get seeing Godzilla in the distance coming to destroy the city. And though I realize I’m making the experience sound just awful, I would definitely recommend visiting Chicago. It’s such a lovely city!
