Another week down, and more sketches done. I’m much less stressed now about not having massive amounts of collection-worthy work finished. I had a realization this week, and I think now I understand that all of my sketches are leading to something much bigger. I don’t know what that is yet, but I’m getting closer to finding out.
Also, I’ve been reading Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, and I’ve just started Part III, where the protagonist is going mad trying to define the concept of Quality. He essentially asks “if Qualtiy cannot be defined, does it exist?” Well, hell’s bells, I’ve never really thought about that. This is interesting because I’d guess Quality is the number one qualifier for artists when it comes to their work. (On a side note, I wish I had read this book while I was teaching. I think the ideas would have come in handy. Either that or maybe it would have prompted me to leave the teaching profession much more quickly than I did.)
Now, onto this week’s completed work.

I finished several pencil and ink sketches, with Everyone Wants to Live Underground as the capstone piece this week.
Several years ago, my grandma gave me a journal filled with old-timey sayings, with the idea that I would create illustrations for each one. I’ve finally devoted some time to working on this task and this is my first sketch, My Neck of the Woods. I really want to pursue this project, but I’m waiting for more inspiration.

These are unfinished sketches that I’ve been working on for a while. I’m not sure I’ll ever finish them.

I love this piece.
For the upcoming week, I’m working on more ink sketches, and I’m also considering some biblically themed work. We’ll see.

Looks great!
